Doom

'Doom' is a great game (well, the original is - I don't know about that newer one) but a crap-fest of a movie.

Seriously, this is really poor. They stick to the game's premise pretty closely from what I recall, but the characters are all shit, and the cinematography is either intentionally like the game but just done badly, or trying to be like, I don't know, 'Alien', or something, with the dark bits and stuff, and just didn't work out. Seriously, a lot of the time I just couldn't see what was going on, and not in a good way. The camera work was also terrible, and all the odd cuts, breaking of the 180 degree rule, and reverse shots rendered many of the action sequences incomprehensible.
What else? Well the plot was alright, if nothing original, and the sets were OK. I liked the Universal logo over Mars, and I liked some of the creature design (again: not very original, but a good use of practical effects). Towards the end there's a short 1st person sequence, which plays oddly and doesn't quite work, but it's cute that they tried, I guess.
That's about it, really. Watch this if you enjoy mindless violent action and the "Rock".
