Consistently
ridiculous, yet often pretty funny – if you're in a dumb kind of a
mood. Kind of like 'Strange Wilderness' but better. If you try to
follow the aimless nonsensical plot and think of it as a structured
comedy movie with a narrative you'll be extremely disappointed, as
most reviewers seem to have been ('Freddy Got Fingered' was slammed
by critics, severely damaging Tom Green's career) but if you take it
more as a series of sketches, it's not half bad.
It resorts to gross-out
humour all the time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but a
lot of it seems improvised at least to some extent. Green's is a
manic enthusiasm, which honestly would probably work better on a 20
minute sketch show.
I did laugh a lot at
this though, but it's not the kind of thing I'd ever watch alone. The
pure ridiculousness of it was often enjoyable, in a “I can actually
feel my brain cells dying” sort of a way. Not smart or art or
anything, but not as bad as many make it out to be. It was really the only film Green could have made, and he kept a lot of shit he wanted in there, so repect for that.
Also, at one point he jerks off a horse. That honestly surprised me - touché, movie.
