There is not a huge amount to say about 'Hellboy'. It's pretty straight forward plot wise, and delivers action and banter reliably. Hellboy's one liners are pretty cheesy, but conjure up a smirk or two, and the chemistry between the main characters is enjoyable and natural (as much as anything of this nature can be natural) feeling. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro, at times it seems to be of a Joss Whedon film, thanks to the fast paced jokes and endless action sequences. Del Toro's style comes through, though (thankfully - not that I dislike Whedon, he's great, but when I choose a Del Toro movie I'd like a littl Del Toroyness).
Said Del Toroyness is most noticeable here in the creature design, which I loved. My favourite was the clockwork assassins, who have red unblinking eyes and who bleed sand. The set design was also nice, in particular the cog filled room with it's atmospheric clicking sounds and the cavern that had been flooded by sickly green water and is occupied by a huge and partially submerged statue.
