A
low budget body horror that started off kinda wobbly and ended up
similar to a cross between 'Bug', 'The Fly' and ends up sneaking into
the vampire genre. It had it's best moments as we were watching Henry
graduals loosing touch and becoming more erratic, but on top of this
there are a load of other plot points that felt pointless and fluffy
to me.
I
couldn't decide if I liked the acting or not. I guess it was alright,
but at times it seemed over the top and cheesy – or maybe that was
the style they were going for, or something?
They
did a good job with what they had (basically just a big kidney
with gills), and the movie was often creepy and frightening. They
should never have tried using CGI though, as those spider things were
both totally pointless plot-wise (the whole cutting into the arm
scene felt pretty cheap to me) and looked terrible.
I
hadn't read a synopsis before viewing, and I was surprised that it
turned into a vampire-type deal (though once it did the final twist
of her being a vampire during her interview at the end could be seen
a mile away). I don't think it was necessarily needed, but it was a
neat scientific-orientated origin story for the disease, or curse, or
whatever.
Overall
this film simply wasn't very good, despite manye
elements working - and think they did alright with what they had.
