Deadpool

Again, lots of hype about this, but I was less dissapointed that I thought I might be. 'Deadpool' is a fun, thoughtless ride (much like... nearly every superhero movie I can think of) that nonetheless packs some properly funny lines and some smart subversions.
By "smart" I mean breaking the fourth wall, which has been around since... well, I know Shakespear did it, anyway. But that's pretty damn cutting edge for Hollywood at the moment. Maybe I'm being harsh, but I'm just not that into superhero movies (I'm not into gladiator battles, human sacrifice, or any other call mastabatory signs of a dying culture either - they're all just too depressing to enjoy).

This portrayal of Deadpool is better than the one in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' anyway. I know that much, at least. He's a fairly likable guy, who some crazy 'X-Men' shit happens too, and then he's a scarred up super revenge hero. The rest of the film follows the plot of a relatively poorly thought out Japanese revenge flick, with some half-hearted nods to 'X-Men' characters and some sick action sequences.
The action really was very good, particularly to start off with. It was like an updated version of some of the stuff from 'The Matrix', but towards the end we saw a little too much of the usual massive collapsing structure effects and explosions that are rife in superhero land.
The costume is pretty in-keeping with the graphic novels though, and a lot of the in jokes are very nicely placed. There sure are a lot of them, though. Ryan Reynolds was clearly having fun in the lead part, and he played bummed out nearly as well as he played sarcastic dick, to the extent that I thought this might be a bit of a dark movie. But then it ends like every other superhero movie ends, happily, and turns out to be exactly as dark as 'Beauty and the Beast'. I think the girl should have died, at least.

I think my review makes it sound like I hate this movie more than I do - it's actually one of my favourite super hero movies, I just don't much care for them. It's fine though, and a fun watch.
