An entertaining yet slightly disappointing take on the classic Dickens story featuring Bill Murray in the leading role. I enjoyed it, and it was smoothly shot and acted, but some of it just felt a little off for me.
Murray's heart doesn't really seem to be in it, and his acting - while pretty darn damn goddamn fucking good by normal standards - isn't on par with his better work. Some of his exchanges with other characters just don't feel particularly real, and his angry shouting feels a bit too serious for what is meant to be, essentially, a comedy.
It's a bit on the dark side all round, really, and I think that would bother most people. I couldn't really care less personally, but then I share a fairly similar sentiment towards Christmas as he does. People literally die and stuff.
I did like plenty of aspects of 'Scrooged' though. The ghosts were all good (if extremely cheesy) - I especially liked the ghost of Christmas present: a fairy who swings back and forth between sugary sweetness and ass kickery. There were lots of nice little funny sequences, and overall the film held together nicely.
