A slow, atmospheric ghost movie with pervasively gloomy atmosphere, lots of cool colours, and rain. Much of the lighting is also in shades of green, giving the whole movie - never mind the sick kids - a sickly glow.
The film is set in an old hospital on the Isle of Wight. It reminds me of the old British imperial naval hospitals, which I associate with those Charles Bell surgical paintings, so there's some extra spookiness right there. The characters are believable, and it's chock-a-block with creepy ass kids (who all have vaguely creepy illnesses). The actor playing Maggie (Yasmin Murphy) is particularly great, one of the best I've ever seen for someone so young. She shows more depth than some of the adults.
Tension is built very well in some scenes, but the build up overall - the movie's pacing - is a little slow for me. The film ends on a touching note as a dead Maggie gives Amy a "love kiss" (on the lips, apparently) to bring her back to life. She is then seen sitting near her and smiling (earlier it was explained that ghosts stay near what they loved most).
