Godzilla

This is the best Godzilla movie that America has ever created, which is to say this isn't actual faeces.
Bryan Cranston was awesome (as he usually is) but then he dies quite early on, to be replaced his much more boring son (who just happens to be a bomb technician guy, or something. Convenient). I wish an American Godzilla movie would just have no real human characters other than a load of Japanese scientists and military guys shouting at one another about how many disposable tanks to send in Godzilla's direction. That's not very Hollywood, though. We have to have some humans as main characters and they have to be plucky with hearts in the right place. Fine. I wouldn't have minded if Cranston had just hung around and Gareth Edwards had kept focus on him. Ken Watanbe was awesome too, but we saw even less of him. But no, we have to spend time with the boring ass son, who lacks the depth of character and motivation of his father.

On the plus side, this film had great visuals and excellent effects. We get a really nice sense of scale with so many of the shots too (we see Gareth Edwards handle this aspect similarly well in 'Rogue One'). I also like that he shot fire out of his mouth at the end - that was a cool moment. Him being effectively indestructible was also good. The fight at the end was cool, though I'm not sure how much I really liked the design of the other kaiju. I didn't dislike it, though.
