A very oddly constructed movie, which was also known as 'Deathdream' (it was difficult picking between them, as the name differs from one source to the next). If you were to read a plot summary it would sound a lot like an episode of The X-Files or The Twilight Zone and the premise would fit in either show. A soldier turns up at his home in the US hours after being shot dead in Vietnam. Big shocker - something's up.
There was a lot of good acting from all the main parts, and the dialogue doesn't sound forced (often a problem with zombie flicks). There is a strange stiltedness throughout. Not from the acting, but from the general layout and scene composition, I think. It's a calculated oddness, and combined with the odd pacing, I didn't really feel like I was watching a horror movie. The pacing though... it was definitely odd, but I'm not sure that it was good odd, I think it was just kinda slow and boring.
The lighting and colours throughout are odd (good odd, this time). The house is filled with minty greens, and the lights indoors often flicker and waver in intensity as if they are guttering candles. A few other random points: Andy's pale complexion and big brown eyes remind me of the lead in 'In the Flesh', which was a great show. I grew increasingly annoyed at the mother, which eventually turned to disgust as I saw how far she would go to protect her zombie kid. That's love, I guess.
